WeMo smart IoT devices are set to go End of Life Jan 31st 2026. Do you guys have any WeMo switches in your homes? I had two that I seemed to have stopped using some years ago because it was too much of a pain to deal with the constant connection issues, and my mom didn’t quite hop on to the smart switch train until right around covid. https://www.zdnet.com/home-and-office/smart-home/your-wemo-smart-devices-are-about-to-get-dumb-as-belkin-pulls-the-plug/

Nope. Most wifi "smart" things aren't actually smart. They have just enough hardware to phone home for instructions (and to pass along whatever data they can harvest). People cringe at zigbee and zwave devices which require a hub, without realizing that the hub provides the backend coordination tech which makes the devices smart without relying on 3rd party services. Sure, they may stop sending firmware updates.. But the core functionality will work as long as the devices still function.
