“LLMs are not useless” is not a contentious take. For all my concerns about AI—namely consolidation of power in the hands of a few companies, a continued reduction in critical thinking and critical research, allowing for easy manipulation, and a world which coalesces more towards the productive sameness capitalism already favours—the idea that they aren’t useful is absurd. 

Tech fads based on useless things passes quickly. After all that’s why crypto is largely failing. 😉

Have to agree. Not a nuanced point of departure to discuss such things. What enjoy about FC is find quite a bit of nuance regarding this and related topics. Possibly because FC is somewhat the 🤓 domain?

Agree on that as well. Always some trade offs.

I think Farcaster is filled with techno optimism, sometimes to the point of delusion or giving a pass to actually awful technologies or ideas. But fortunately, that techno optimism does have an upside which is we don’t waste time arguing about whether we should even run the experiment.
