If anyone is in Montenegro, Boka Bay, tomorrow in Risan at 14.14 I am running a second book club meetup. We will be discussing The Machine Stops by E. M. Forster https://www.cs.ucdavis.edu/~koehl/Teaching/ECS188/PDF_files/Machine_stops.pdf The following questions will be on the menu of discussion: 1. Is the society in The Machine Stops really that different from our own, or have we already started down the same path of isolation and dependence on technology? 2. Do you think the Machine failed the people, or did the people fail themselves by giving up autonomy and critical thinking? 3. If you had to choose between the comfort of the Machine and the uncertainty of Kuno's world, which would you pick-and why?
