This is at my parents property up in the Sierras. If I didn't have a family in the picture I'd have moved in years ago. Wouldn't need the fire right now, maybe just a small one, it starts getting hot this time of year up there. We get 1 cord give or take of almond from Central California each year. Find people on Craigslist and arrange delivery.

Bruh you haul your wood up from the valley? Gotta buy it where you burn it or you might spread the 🚫πŸͺ² I grew up in the sierras and folks hauling in their firewood was a huge problem.

Not my property, not my choice, unfortunately. I've brought that up with my parents before. When I spent extended periods up there in my early 20's I always stocked locally, but now I live 9 hours away and my parents are both pushing 70... it's not an excuse, but it explains the pattern.

Yeah there's lots of cheap local wood for delivery/stacking. But it's not easy to find from afar. I've never met a woodcutter with a website lol It's a super hard problem to fight because it's so invisible. It can be 20-50 years before we learn the causal relationship between invasive beetles -> climate change -> tree mortality crisis -> whole towns burning down.. And by then it's too late.

It has been really distressing watching the beetle blight take over... between that and the fires Yosemite feels like a shell compared to what it was before 2010. Really this is just motivation for me to get up there more often. Easier to handle that stuff when you have boots on the ground.

Honestly same. Living in the valley now makes high-altitude grass touching all the more important ⛰️
