When internet outages like this happen, I have the sudden urge to go solar/cypher punk. Self host everything, all solar powered. Own hard copies of all your entertainment. Grow your own food, build robots and use AI to help. P2P and E2EE everything

It would be really interesting to know how many battery cells are needed to power a decent computer. The main issue would be probably GPU and cooling the system off the grid, but not impossible. Some bio chamber that uses the grass and soil to have the servers down so they are cool would be an option. An issue probably humidity. Really interesting stuff. It reminds me of the goog old days.

Agreed! I'm also curious if it would be a different story if we relied less on large clouds and more on individual devices. For instance @iammatthias has a solar powered website via a Raspberry Pi. If we get better at resource management and harnessing power, more efficient with chips, what could we do?

We would go back to when we created our own wifi networks. Those were really fun days of experimenting and learning. Which type of raspberry pi has @iammatthias ?

The solar pi is currently no solar, its plugged in on my desk because a tree branch smashed the housing outside... Using a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 behind a Cloudflare tunnel.
