My small city passed new zoning regulations last year that prioritized density, new housing, clearer regulations. Last week 9 wealthy residents sued because of a clerical mistake in the processing of the new zoning - god forbid someone put an apartment building within a mile of their 2 acre city lot. 

Pretty much every developer in town has now pulled the plug on their projects. They were already wobbly with all the tariffs/cost inflation, but throw regulatory uncertainty on top and they’re out. 

As a result, my wife’s office (she’s also an architect) just put everyone at part time and cut wages by 50% since most of their business was tied to these developers.

Thanks. Luckily we have support here, a large amount of unused credit, and honestly, we’ve been wanting to venture out on our own anyway — perhaps this is the kick we need.

Thank you. We’ll have to make some changes, but I think we’ll be OK. Architecture as a business is heavily tied to speculation and super low margins. It’s something we’ve been thinking about internally for some time (although not very rigorously) but maybe this is the time to try something new.
