Tasting with The Macallan NGL, even ignoring how expensive these bottles sell for, it was fairly underwhelming for my palate. The 12 was not memorable, it's probably a crowd pleaser, but if I want a crowd pleaser Jameson is right there. The double oak was a bit to astringent without the kind of double oakiness you would find in a Woodford Reserve Double The Harmony was interesting, it was supposed to have a tea inspired flavor but I found it to be fairly similar to taiwanese/japanese whiskey and I'd rather just have one of those like Kavalan. The 18 was decadent though, very nice cognac nose, but it's still fairly low proof so it doesn't have the palate bite that I want. The highlight of the afternoon was a Waygu fat washed Manhattan...yes you read that right..it was f****** amazing. Like dry-aged steak infused into whiskey. Go ask for one at Vintage in /sanjose if they still have it.
