I studied agricultural science and I read about plant abit too. IMO: The disease affecting this watermelon is Gummy Stem Blight (Didymella bryoniae) To know the exact cause of this on your watermelon you'll need to consult with an expert to look more closely,But some regular causes I know about are Nutrient deficiency,Bacteria infection, fungal infection and even environmental stress,yeah.
