I keep hearing this theory that the housing crisis will sort itself out as Zoomers and Millennials  inherit their parents houses... and I'm just not sure that's going to be generally true.

I think it's more likely that in most cases, those houses will be sold to pay for assisted living, end of life services and medical costs.

Here in my country, the younger generations no longer think about owning a home: it's simply something out of reach. And the mentality our parents had of taking 20 years or more to build a house is no longer taken into account. 

Long-term plans are increasingly in danger of extinction.

I would say that Australia and Canada have enjoyed more stability and economic conditions than Venezuela and Latin America over the past 20-50 years... but this problem is the same because governments in both places have traded long-term solutions for short-term benefits... and now we have problems that aren't easily solved.

Yes, Urban, it's a drama that affects all of Latin America, but sometimes I'm surprised that it happens in other countries as well, where stability and economic conditions are supposedly better.

You'd think it would be easy to keep housing costs affordable... people have always needed housing,  housing has always required constant maintenance, it's the same skills that have been required for a long time... it's weird that it's collapsing in so many countries at the same time.
