I don’t have TikTok, but my colleagues just sent me a video of a young patient I saw multiple times in our psychiatric emergency unit after several suicide attempts. It took over a year to ease her anxiety, find the right treatment, and most importantly, for her to come to terms with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
Now, she’s out of the hospital. She’s going to live her life.
We first admitted her when she was 18, after severe bullying at school. Some of my colleagues had to intervene directly, to remove the rope she had around her neck. We almost lost her more than once. It’s been a long and painful journey, but today, I truly believe she’s on the right path.
Yes, I’m emotional. Because we don’t talk enough about mental health. About those who fight, and eventually find their way through. We mostly hear about violence, not about resilience ✊ 4 replies
