Happy Chinese New Year. 🧧 🐉 Burj Khalifa usually has special light shows for Chinese New year and the Dubai Mall is decorated very festively for the month. Probably the most interesting city to spend new years than in Asia.

Dotonbori part of Osaka is pretty cool though, especially at night when all the stores light up their colorful signs. I’m not a big shopper, especially when I’m traveling (I try to fit everything in a carryon and bag pack) but I do love to eat and the smell of walking by interesting restaurants.

Also about hour-ish train ride away from Kyoto is city of Osaka. Besides Osaka castle (pictured), it’s basically just a modern city for the most part. Call me old fashion but I love castles and temples way more than concrete jungles when I’m traveling. 1/2

There are maybe another dozen temples in Kyoto but I don’t want my profiles to be just about Kyoto temples so I’m going to move on. A short train ride away from Kyoto is Nara. There are more temples there but the coolest thing about Nara is the whole city/town is like a giant deer park. 1/

The pagoda at Kiyomizudera Temple is pretty especially when you go on a sunny day and the contract with the sky is just perfect. 1/
