This is one of my favorite books of all time

Psychiatrist Thomas Szasz tears down his own field; He argues that framing moral / social issues as illnesses absolves individuals of responsibility and turns psychiatrists into moral arbiters

The title is rather inflammatory but it works a good litmus test for how open-minded someone *actually* is given the content inside

Framing illness as personal failure can be pretty toxic as well

That’s one of the ways we end up without national health care

I think theres a middle ground to be had

You can’t put everything on the individual when the state exists, but imo we’ve been trending toward people giving up agency over their mental health for years — putting diagnoses in charge
