How do you foster a culture of high standards on your team? Esp curious about small remote teams of equals (eg cofounder-like relationship, not employee/manager)

i think it starts with a deep conversation around standards and what it looks like - i think if youre trying to implement it in one-off arrangements it fails also there can be challenges of people literally not having the capacity or understanding of what good looks like generally there is an embedded assumption in groups of what "good enough" looks like and if people know thats all they have to do, theyll aim at that cultivating the flywheel culturally for GREAT work all the time is quit hard if its not embedded in the culture. people need to go through the valley of challenges to see how it results in better work and then also have the cover and support when they make mistakes. ive seen most managers or leaders setting the standards dont quite understand HOW they arrive at good work and even worse at teaching or training others (this is basically what i do with my corporate think like a strategy consultant program)

for early teams you need to hire high quality individuals. As the team grows, the culture of shipping fast and often grows to the other members of the team. I also think setting shared goals, putting your to-dos on a shared board, etc all helps keep accountability.

In tradfi land it’s been 2 things: 1) setting an example of the standards
.not just high but making sure people understand the impact of something is not 2) a mutual respect and acknowledgement that life happens
.if you give leeway when things are hard and genuinely care, people give more to the team under normal circumstances .

In small remote teams, nurture high standards through clear communication, mutual respect, shared goals, and regular feedback for accountability and motivation.
