Not sure how much interest there is in this topic, but here it goes. If you want to get dress shoes, my STRONG recommendation is to make sure they're Goodyear-welted. The short version is these kinds of shoes will last a lifetime. You DO NOT throw them away. They're made of high quality leather, and the soles can be replaced by a cobbler. I think the best starter shoes would be Allen Edmonds. Look for Park Ave which is fairly neutral. Brand new, you can find them under $200 when they're on sale. If you're OK with buying used, you can find them under $100. This might seem a little steep, but remember, they last a lifetime. :) If you have questions about other brands or want other recs, let me know -- I love riffing about this stuff. https://allenemonds.com

Good recommendation! +100 for Allen Edmonds. Factory Seconds is also a great opportunity to save.

Yea man, I think almost all mine are factory seconds. I’m not a full price guy 🤣. I haven’t found a blemish I couldn’t fix or couldn’t live with
