The ‘follow your passion’ advice is terrible for 99% of people. Most passions don’t pay bills. Find something you’re decent at that pays well, then use that money to fund your actual interests.

I think 99% of people don’t have the conviction for their “passion”  enough to pursuit it as a profession if that is what you are referring to. 
they may have thought it was something they are passionate about and realized the amount of work. Inevitably prefer an easy route that is comfortable and along that road they gain new interests .

I don’t blame people going for a safer option as it is really difficult to be resile t year after year seeking that break!   now a days with prices rising so much for anything and everything. Times have changed a lot from when our grandparents paid 10 blueberries for a home.

I think there’s something to this. The fear takes over and they don’t go all in and then blame the wider world for not caring as much as they “deserved” - I’ve seen that from some creatives.
