It’s not really correlated to deficit growth though — accelerate at start of pandemic, sure, but flat for 3 years even as the deficit ballooned

No it hasn’t, the sp500 chart doesn’t include dividends at roughly 1.5% yoy! with these reinvested the sp500 comfortably beats gold.

I think the point that’s missing is the macro factors starting in 18-19 that are of importance.
