Meet Zuke (short for Azuki Bean), the shop dog. Twelve years young. He was found surviving off of garbage at a rural chicken sale in Oklahoma. There's a rescue that brings dogs from Oklahoma to New York for adoption. I fostered many dogs for them over the years, but Zuke was my only “foster fail,” as they say. While living in NYC, Zuke did a short stint as an e-commerce dog model and was cast in a Buzzfeed-style video called Does Your Dog Love You More Than Food? The set up: they release him and see whether he’d choose me or an enormous meat bone. He walked past both me and the bone... and went straight for a trash can off camera. Offensive, maybe. But I respect an independent thinker who refuses false choices and lives by his own script.
