Just browsed through ~50 mini apps and realized none of them had ads. How are builders monetizing on here? Or is this still just for fun..?

imo the TAM is too small to consider and not fetch a gud price for sponsorship since few clicks plus unless you have a good retention (games and apps w actual utility), it's difficult to get ads. also, idts builders even thought about it. maybe companies can sponsor APIs, Dev cost and also some money to sponsor the builder as a whole instead of mini apps. and builder can put logo or write "mini app possible thanks to xyz" you have a gud point tho what sort of ads would you wanna see?

I don’t like ads but if I had to choose, however Instagram does it which tends to be relevant and interesting for me - local fitness studio deals, aesthetic practical goodies, fun events, etc

Monetization in a web3 native ecosystem should/could come by trading value (subs, buying access, nft etc). That is why there is a wallet in the middle of the navbar Im not saying its going to be easy nor successful, but its kinda the whole point of blockchain based ecosystems is “another type of monetization” You probably will find much refraction to ads in the short term around
