Ig Nobel Prize The Ig Nobel Prize is officially awarded at Harvard University once a year. It is given for the most unusual, curious and strange scientific discoveries. In 1991, the American magazine Annals of Improbable Research established the Ig Nobel Prize - the opposite of the Nobel Prize. Nevertheless, the ceremony of announcing the winners and awarding, traditionally held in the Sanders Theater of Harvard University, remains one of the most covered events in the world of science. By the way, the Ig Nobel Prizes are awarded by real Nobel laureates. The prize does not have a fixed list of nominations. Here are the recent winners of the prize: • The Prize in Chemistry: Scientists from France and the Netherlands have developed a way to separate drunk worms from sober ones using chromatography. • The Prize in Physics: Scientist James Liao has proven that a dead trout can swim against the current. • Peace Prize: American psychologist Burres Skinner proved the effectiveness of pigeons in war. The scientist suggested placing pigeons inside missiles and using them as spotters. • Prize in physiology: Japanese researchers have found that many mammals, including pigs and rodents, can breathe through the anus. • Prize in probability theory: 50 European scientists in more than 350 thousand experiments proved that a tossed coin is more likely to fall on the side opposite to the one that looked up at the time of the toss. • Prize in biology: Scientists Fordyce Ely and William E. Petersen learned that frightened cows give less milk. • Demography Prize: Scientists from the University of Oxford have proven that many of the longest-lived people lived in areas where the census was poorly conducted and their age is often the result of errors and fraud. • Anatomy Prize: Scientists from France have discovered that the direction of curling hair in curly people does not depend on whether they live in the Southern or Northern Hemisphere. • Prize in Medicine: A group of scientists proved that placebo pills (dummy pills) with stated side effects work better than placebo pills without side effects. • Prize in Botany: Scientists Jake White and Felipe Yamashita discovered that real plants can mimic the shape of the leaves of nearby artificial plants.
