I'm actually shocked by the level of sophistication and improvisation demonstrated by the Ukrainian military today. They used $800 drones (I've seen where many of these are assembled and its really a bare bones process) to destroy billions of dollars in advanced aircraft. This should be a massive wake up call to incumbent military with lots of expensive and exquisite hardware. The era of Temu Warfare has arrived.

Great indeed. Unfortunately replicability is unlikely as it took them 18 months to plan and execute. And even if the Russian territory is vast and hard to control, countermeasures will be put in place which makes it harder to execute again

How can we be sure that they didn’t hold back some of this capability? It would not make sense to show all your cards just a few days before heading into negotiations.

Strikes this deep into home turf really will drive home the need to stop the advance and focus on securing domestic capabilities before it's too late. This is gonna take some of the wind out of Russia's sails, and will also likely help in negotiations.

That’s what everybody is saying and hoping for, but we have been saying this about all smart and effective attacks (Kursk intrusion) and so far Russia found a way to counter it. I hope I’m wrong

This is like over 100x deeper into Russia than any attacks they've had like this though

I’m not sure it makes a difference if it’s in remote areas. I was also wondering why Ukraine would tell us so much about the operation. We even have pictures of the trucks, the storage and so on. If you’d want to repeat it, you would try to keep as much as possible secret.

Oh absolutely, I don't think Ukraine plans to do a similar attack again. Or at least, that's not how you would try and do it. I'm saying that this might create pause for the Russians, because if they focus on advancing the line they sort of leave themselves open at home. Then Ukraine could easily do a similar attack again and again until they retreat Also, deeply embarrassing and problematic politically at home.
