True music fans haven’t taken to music NFT collecting in a way many of us hypothesized— the market is primarily driven by degen speculators who happen to also like music. Meanwhile I really thought it would bring many new people to the space the way NBA Top Shot did with sports fans

More and more my thinking is that projects need to take music out of music NFTs. Anything that involves streaming or reproducing recordings can only reinforce the current music power structures, not disrupt. Unless there's significant overhaul of music copyright legislation.

Hypothesis: It's not about the song, especially a new one. It's about the connection between the fan and the artist, and this first gen of offerings didn't do enough to bring them together.

Really? My software helped stand up musicos.xyz and the feed I listened to while coding was filled with extraordinarily good-sounding music. Sadly the collab stopped, but the music on Catalog, Sound and Noizd was world-class IMO. But the community is still tiny.
