I finished reading Stay with me by Ayobami Adebayo around 2:30am. Honestly, this is the kind of you book you read and you get really angry but somehow,I couldn’t place my anger on any of the characters. They were all messed up except for Moomi(Akin’s mother) of course. What I felt for Akin’s mother wasn’t anger,it was hatred. I loathe women who enables misogyny. Women who think because they are mothers, then every other woman on earth should be one too, otherwise she isn’t fit to be called a woman. I despise mothers who cares about what the world think more than their child’s welfare. This book touches on how the African culture hammers more on enduring marriage rather than enjoying it. I hate how Africans glorifies suffering and I hate who ever sold those lies to us more. Before I read this book,I was expecting to be traumatized because of the reviews I had seen. However,as I flip through chapters, all I feel is anger and hatred.

I was angry at Akin,Yejide and Dotun. All it took was for any of them was to say “NO” to being part of that insanity but it never happened. I finally decided to sleep around past 3 and I still dreamt of the characters of stay with me.

You’re right, African mothers care more about what others would say
