Watched Friendship over the weekend and was really disappointed. Was hoping for a good new comedy (haven’t had one in a long time) and it just felt exceptionally uncomfortable and unfunny. It was like “I Love You Man” and “Taxi Driver” got spliced together without any of the benefits lol I know a lot of people like it so what am I missing?

Unfortunately for you, I loved it. But your comparisons are way off.. I’m just gonna go out on a limb here and say you haven’t seen Cable Guy.. Which also didn’t do well in its time, because a lot of people are/were uncomfortable with it. I love both films in their own ways. Cable Guy was also a phenomenal film, but I realized that Friendship is more like if Cable Guy focused entirely on Jim Carrey’s character, Chip, rather than the “straight” character of Matthew Broderick.

To me, it felt like a psychological horror about the state/complexity of male friendship in America. I thought it was interesting and would like to know more about what message they were trying to convey It was funny, but personally, I’m glad it wasn’t a traditional buddy comedy

Agreed. I heard it was awesome, somewhere and thought, eh, 5 extra bucks to own it instead of rent. Disappointed and would not recommend it to anyone and I actively tried to like it.
