Tough loss for the Giants today. They had a shot till the very end but couldn’t cash in enough runs. I was hopeful they would at least win the series. On to the next one with the As.

hicks is having a pretty rough start to the season. surprisingly his underlying stats are pretty solid. his current babip is far above his career average and his strand rate about 20% lower than his career average. he's also giving up less homers and becoming an ever stronger ground ball pitcher. hopefully his luck turns around soon.

Hicks for sure did not look very good today unfortunately. Hopefully he turns it around because that record of 1-5 is not looking good. He is going to need a lot of luck. At this stage, it can start to become mental when the team knows you’re starting and see that record going into the game. It doesn’t set a good tone:

i think win / loss is very luck based and/or not something a pitcher can influence all the time. hicks is very likely to move back towards his career averages, especially his lob%. 20% below his average is insane. that alone moving back towards his career average and his babip regressing to the mean would improve his overall numbers. the fact that he’s generating more ground balls and limiting homers suggests he should have better starts ahead of him.
