It’s definitely true that Eisenhower was trying to encourage more alignment with non-violence, but I hear more of a calling of attention to the trade offs than a call to leave ourselves defenseless. Writing this off as pacifism, might be dismissing an opportunity to do the work of empathizing with those words, no?
