After reading the Elon biography, can’t unsee how many of these boil down to “who came up with this requirement?”and “delete”. https://x.com/XEng/status/1717754398410240018?s=20

It's all impressive, but you still have to make a product that people want to use. Most independent sources say X has lost ~10% of its DAU QoQ. D1, D7, D30 retention all down. If engineering efficiency is their north star, then kudos; but business metrics are suffering.

The only way to reduce accumulated bloat and make room for the new. One of the first things Steve Jobs did when he came back to Apple was kill most of their products and refocus.

Surprising what a change of leadership does to a company. They are finally shipping and making great progress!

The numbers are against Elon’s Twitter. I see the huge works they have done, but I also see a pattern in Elon’s business model: try everything until something works. I lost interest in using Twitter in the past months, too much changed.

Also similar themes in the new Balaji book. ‘Why is there a regulation here? Remove.’ Made the concept of like ‘what wasn’t built due to regulation/rules’ very visible to me. I’ll never know how many specialty coffee shops I missed out on b/c of insane permit laws in the US.
