The most revealing part of today is Musk essentially admitting that buying Twitter wasn’t about making it a better and more open social network, but rather about entrenching the status quo and amplifying an authoritarian, right-wing agenda. Today opens another opportunity for Farcaster to differentiate from X and Musk. Will probably not happen.

Differentiation doesn’t matter if there’s no market for it. No one still active on X cares enough to leave the network effect. If you care and you don’t like crypto, you’re on Bluesky. If you care and you like crypto, you’re here.

Fair enough. Just to understand , what is the reasoning to put these values aside and boost other key differentiators like ā€œearn on Farcasterā€ or ā€œmake money on Farcasterā€ that are not at the core values of the protocol itself? Is your hypothesis that there’s a larger market for that? Is a new market or are you trying to capture it from somewhere else?

Consumers use things that solve problems for them. Those values only solve a problem for a very small % of people. That's saturated already between Mastodon, BlueSky, Nostr and Farcaster. Most people only use apps to be entertained or make money (either directly or indirectly through work).

Can’t you have both? I don’t understand why it’s incompatible to have a fun to use social network while promoting different values as the GAFAMX. Narrative is important. If you have something superior you should convert it in value propositions. For example: Value: Open protocol VP: Put efforts on having an excellent path to integrate the protocol in 3rd apps and boost the client ecosystem (rn, the path is inner miniapps that are the reflection of the degen userbase on Farcaster: gambling and minting) Value: Decentralization VP: Brazil State can’t just censor the protocol, come to Farcaster! I don’t see how ā€œearn on Farcasterā€ could be a strong growth driver, most people earn very little, they can get frustrated, and it’s usually the same type of users who benefit the most. In fact, I can see how it might have the opposite effect.

These are just two examples, but both of these VP have potential to solve users problems and build a diverse social network that is fun to use.

Neither of these drive growth in the near term. They require exogenous events to happen.
