struggled to 'review' this book because it's a challenging read. ultimately found it to be sharp diagnosis but questionable cure. pepi's teardown of platform capitalism is genuinely excellent, cutting through Silicon Valley BS with surgical precision. 

the myth-busting chapters are perfect ammo for dunking on web 2.0, but the book loses me when it lumps all of crypto in with platform grift, dismissing it all as just another speculative permission slip for capitalism. i get distrusting VC funding, but the answer can’t be just doubling down on the same systems that enabled this mess. 

worth reading for the platform critique, but the solutions feel like throwing out a better future to save institutions that clearly aren't working.

some insane wealthy billionaire could literally start their own UBI program of some sort and all these people would still find some way to call it a ponzi

Totally get this take .. sharp critique up front, but the dismissal of alternatives feels like a missed opportunity.
