@diid can you explain how statements like this do a disservice to truely on chain art

The term "onchain" in Jesse's tweet feels at worst intentionally misleading and at best avoidant of the long history of what we've considered on-chain art.

Since long before Base, an artwork was only considered "on-chain" if it was stored fully on the blockchain with no dependencies. We use the term "minted" otherwise

i'm open to chatting more about it! i'm generally a descriptivist rather than a prescriptivist and think that onchain is a very useful descriptive term to capture things that exist predominantly on blockchains. there's a ton of nuance in what "predominantly" means, but yeah.

I can't expect something like that to happen in good faith so instead we buidl on

Perhaps an open dialogue should be opened up between jesse, base and the on chain art community on how we can ideate on how to rebrand the term on chain for either sides
