it costs 2500 warps (25$)/year to create a channel currently there are ~15k channels = ~$375K/year. if channel creation becomes a part of the protocol and even if it 10xs from here, that's 3.7M$ revenue for the protocol. what am i missing here?

the "protocol" doesnt exist as a foundation or decentralized entity so it doesn't need funding there's no cryptoeconomic incentives at the protocol level you're not wrong that this is a potential source of revenue, but at the moment it's all centrally owned by merkel

They are actually 25$ to create. You don’t have to pay each year to maintain. Payment is to avoid spamming too much channels. Not a source of revenue.
