Before I left DC I popped by The White House to see the new flag poles. Only saw the one in the front. Haven’t been by the WH for a decade — interesting to see how much more security & fencing there is now. The whole ellipse is closed off so it’s difficult to see the back. 

When I was in college, my sorority sisters & I waited along the ellipse in the January cold 3am—8am for the White House welcome the day after George HW Bush’s inauguration. This was such a cool (and cold 🥶) experience that included a gathering on the WH lawn, a speech by the new President, a tour of the White House and a chance to shake hands with President Bush, the First Lady, VP Quayle and Mrs Quayle. Memories flooded back this morning.

Yep, it's been since 2018 and definitely different.
