Your First Week as a Tycoon: What I Wish I’d Known Uncharted Tycoons is an onchain maritime trading strategy game on Base. You buy Ingredient Tokens (cargo) in the Bazaar, load a ship, pick a route across the Mediterranean, manage risk from pirates and taxes, and sell at ports for a premium. Every voyage departs and settles onchain. Departure is a commitment; unloading is settlement. The market keeps moving while you’re at sea. Here’s the practical starting path and the lessons that would have saved me time, resources, and a few empty holds.
Quick mental model You are not just playing a game. You are making a market decision every time you depart: cargo selection, route risk, tax drag, timing, and how much you leave behind for the next voyage. The players who treat it like a live order book instead of a clicker progress faster. Join the community Telegram https://t.me/+7IXwAQHIPAgwN2Q1 or follow the official channels @gramvoyage.base.eth for live boosts, patch notes, and route talk. The best edges often start as a short conversation. Fair winds. Read the board, pick one clean signal, and make the voyage you can explain
2. Read the route numbers before you commit Every route shows three numbers that matter: Base Profit Rate the raw premium for that cargo grade at the destination. Tax Rate what the port takes. Net Profit Rate what you actually keep after tax. Same-grade cargo (e.g. Grade C cfMILK and cfTOMATO) shares the same Base Profit Rate at a given port. Higher Net Profit is better, but only if the timing still holds when you arrive. Markets recover and saturations build; a route that looked great an hour ago can be mediocre by the time you unload.
3. Cargo, resources, and the real cost of sailing Cargo is Ingredient Tokens from the Chef Universe economy. You buy at market price in the Bazaar. You also need resources (especially cfWHEAT early on) to keep the voyage moving. Do not empty your resource stack just to load maximum cargo on day one. Leave a buffer. Running out mid-loop is more expensive than a slightly smaller hold. Watch active boosts. Market recovery multipliers (e.g. on MILK or EGG) change which cargo is worth moving that week. Check the in-game notice before locking a plan.
