Two weeks ago my cardiologist was recommending a pacemaker for me, but deferred to the judgement of the electrophysiologist. 

Not only did the EP not recommend a pacemaker right now, but he said I can begin training and racing again without restriction!!!

Time to make a comeback!!!

After 4 months of a myriad of tests and no real training, i can get back to being myself.

Goal is to race at National championships in August and World Championships in October.

Man, I don’t even know if I told you the worst case scenario they were screening for, but it was far worse than a pacemaker if they couldn’t rule out ARVC. They were able to rule it out with Csrdiac MRI and genetic testing

For ARVC (Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy)yes, I feel very confident that I don’t have that. Cardiac MRI showed no RV fibrofatty tissue infiltration. Also the genetic testing was negative. That one would have meant no amount of exercise again, ever. Median life expectancy 41, and possible heart transplant. So a pacemaker woul have been pretty mild compared to that. 

I do have several arrhythmias. -Second degree AV heart block (Mobitz I)
-I frequently have PVCs and PACs
-My heart pauses sometimes for almost 4 seconds. 
-Occasional Junctional Rhythm 

However, all of the above can be attributed to what they are now calling “Athlete’s Heart” where adaptations and cardiac remodeling can mimic different pathologies. 
Many well trained athletes have high vagal tone, resulting in very low resting heart rates, which kind of makes your natural pacemakers freak out a bit. My resting heart rate often hits the 30s. 

I trust the electrophysiologists opinion, it makes sense, and it’s kind of what I already thought. They are getting a sports cardiologist soon, so I will start working with him.
