How much does it cost the US to forcibly deport someone? Could they just pay that as an incentive for people to self deport, or does that create a perverse incentive (sneak in, collect payment on exit)?

From your responses I think you may think that I’m suggesting paying a bounty to deport others? I only mean paying someone to voluntarily leave of their own choosing. I think that is less coercive and violent than the approach currently being taken.

Uh but your still for it? You want them to do nice fascism? Is that it? What if hitler just asked the jews nicely … jesus. The goal is fascism. Deportation, detention is just setting up the precedent to curtail freedoms, and resistance

To be clear I’m not expressing support for deportation. I’m moreso approaching this from the starting point where you have a government intent on deportation, and thinking about how to do that with less suffering. That said, I do think countries should be able to defend their borders and enforce their desired immigration policies. How they should handle people already in country illegally, I’m not sure, though the recent actions are callous and troubling.

The thing is, generally immigration policy has been left to the states, and on the west coast, we have sanctuary cities where law abiding migrants are left TF alone, regardless of their documentation status. What Trump is doing is sending in ICE to directly violate local laws and tear apart families in our community. This is where the outrage is coming from. It's actually completely unprecedented and insane.

Thanks for the context. Tearing families apart is absolutely heartbreaking.
