Having a piece of infrastructure and a specific client implementation share name removes credence from the infra actually being an open platform. Imagine if the web was called "the Microsoft Internet", and Microsoft released a browser named "Microsoft Internet Explorer". Would you have built on that web?

I don't think that's quite analogous; the distinction here is that Base is clearly named after Coinbase, whereas Farcaster isn't named after Merkle Manufactory. The closer analogy would be if Farcaster was renamed Merkle Manufactorum, and the client was renamed Merkle Manufactory Caster or something. Given that that's not the case, IMO it's fine to rename Warpcast to Farcaster, so long as Farcaster is renamed something like Cast Network. Other clients can pick names with similar proximity.
