🎯 Nailed it. Lots of missed opportunity for connection as things currently stand.

I know I can't count on the algo to show me everything. So my work-around has been: to catch up with people who have interesting convos, I visit their profiles every few days to see the casts that never appeared in my feed (and note that I use the Following feed as my default). Then I expand threads and add comments. Not perfect, but better than missing something I'm keenly interested in. 

FWIW, a few of us are preparing to launch a new channel in a couple of weeks, and we'll be trying some in-channel experiments to encourage deeper dives.

For example, we already have about 30 people in a great group chat who have self-selected for long-form reads. We'll be giving them advance notice about discussion topics plus a dedicated space where they all know the convos will appear regularly, so we're hoping that will encourage them to return and catch up/add to the threads later.

We'll see how it goes.
