Blue Babe is a 36,000–50,000-year-old mummified steppe bison discovered frozen in Alaskan permafrost in 1979. Its blue color came from mineralization, and it likely died from a predator attack. It’s now displayed at the University of Alaska Museum, and famously, a small piece of its meat was once cooked and eaten by researchers.

This bison turned blue after being frozen for 36,000 years!!! Killed by an ice age american lion, “Blue Babe” was preserved by a mineral called vivianite. Bison has slightly more protein and significantly less fat and calories than black Angus beef, making it a leaner, higher-protein option per calorie. Angus beef, however, offers richer flavor due to higher fat content.
