It also expands time: - You relive your childhood, and go back to things you had forgotten. - Your meaningful future extends beyond your lifespan. It makes sense to do things that will have impact long after you're gone.

Agree on the first one. My kid is 9 month old. Very much looking forward to exactly that. I never really related with the idea of doing things that will have an impact after I am gone. Doesn’t appeal to me.

We planted a very small tree in the garden, when my daughter was 1. I thought, "one day, this will grow and we will spend time in its shade". Then I realized that by the time the tree was big enough for me to enjoy its shade, I would be too old, or maybe gone. But the thought of my daughter enjoying the shade was good enough for me. It makes sense to do something today, that will pay off in a period longer than me.
