This is the year Farcaster goes ultra-mainstream and regular people (e.g. my mom) start using it. 

Why? Because a new app/product will figure out how to leverage the existing social graph to quickly launch, scale, and monetize in a few weeks. AI will shorten the iteration cycle, and it'll amplify everything. 

And, perhaps, because a specific topic will find a home here that doesn't have a home somewhere else. Maybe a specific fan club or a corner of tech. Who knows - maybe the next watering hole for politics that can't be censored like other platforms.

I think farcaster is forever a product for nerds

the product it most closely resembles is twitter, which is also a product for nerds

and it doesn’t have to be mainstream because it’s the preferred network of elites in tech, politics, etc

it’s a platform for ideas, memes, etc with outsized influence

in that way, a lot similarity to how crypto isn’t mainstream but has outsized influence

Short text social has never really been mainstream. Twitter has never been close to 1b MAU which would still be small compared to the scale that Facebook and Instagram is operating at

We might have different definitions of mainstream then 😅

500M MAU // 200M DAU is pretty mainstream to me. 

It's not at the same global penetration levels as Facebook, but thats still a massive platform with widespread adoption. If any crypto app got to that scale, we would say crypto has gone mainstream.

Twitter is not super mainstream but it has outsized influence in elite circles like tech & politics

It’s successful almost because it isn’t mainstream but is the precursor to ideas that go mainstream much later

Twitter is used by a lot more people than nerds. 

What do you think would help Farcaster break out beyond that audience today?

Just needs a viral form factor built on top of the social graph
