To solve effectively the problem of retaining and retrieving carefully articulated thought, you have to do your thinking in mnemonic patterns, shaped for ready oral recurrence. Your thoughts must come into being in heavily rhythmic, balanced patterns, in repetitions or antithesis, in alliterations or assonances, in epithetic and other formulary expressions... Serious thought is intertwined with memory systems. (Walter J. Ong, 1982, Orality and Literacy)

When we truly become ourselves, we are a door that keeps swinging. We are both independent of everything and complementary to everything. Moment after moment, we are always the center of the world. If you have such an experience, if you have existed in this way, you have absolute independence and will not be disturbed by anything.

Passion is not found; it is created. And to create it, you must be good at something. To be good at something, you first have to start with something you are not good at. Then, you will get better. Then, you will start to enjoy it. Then, people will ask you how you found your passion. The answer is: Start with “not being good at it,” and then persist.

Why is art beautiful? Because art is useless. Why is life ugly? Because life is full of purposes, goals, and intentions. All paths lead from one point to another.

All sorrow and suffering, pain and degradation, are also part of life. They are everywhere, just not easily seen. This is not only because they originate from within, but also because most people are trying hard to conceal them, and even more so because acknowledging their existence is so painful: life should be bright, life should be easy.

The train of life does not travel on a set track; everyone must lay their own rails. Since there is no predetermined path, we need not live in a conventional manner, nor should we allow others to dictate our lives.

The crisis is approaching us step by step, and the time it takes is much longer than we think. However, once it confronts us, the speed at which it launches an attack is much faster than we imagined. In other words, the formation of a crisis can be a long, protracted process, but its outbreak can happen overnight.

Change is difficult because we can always quantify what we are going to lose, but we cannot quantify what we might gain.

We must abandon many things that we are addicted to and stop regarding them as good. Otherwise, courage will vanish, and this very fact will keep being confirmed. Even great souls will be lost unless they disregard what the rabble most desires.

When writer Henry Miller was writing Tropic of Cancer, he set himself the following 11 rules for living: 1) Do one thing at a time. 2) Do not start a new book. 3) Do not be nervous. Be calm, happy, and uninhibited in what you are doing. 4) Work according to plan, not by mood. 5) If you cannot create, at least you can work. 6) Do a little bit of finishing every day, but do not fertilize. 7) Keep your humanity. Go out with friends, have fun, and drink if you feel like it. 8) Do not be a workhorse. Work is for pleasure. 9) Stop when you want to, but continue the next day. Focus, find the core, and simplify the complex. 10) Do not think about what book you are going to write, but only about the book you are writing. 11) Always prioritize writing. Painting, music, friends, and movies all come second.

The best way to heal sorrow is to learn, which is the only thing that is always effective. Learn why the world operates and how it operates. Only this can ensure that the soul is never exhausted, never alienated, never tormented, never fearful or distrustful, and never worried about regrets.
