Single hit artists are the luckiest people. They have a single song and for years this song/video keeps printing. Some examples: Gangsta’s Paradise - Coolio. Man currently has 17m plays/mo on Spotify owing to just this track. With the video 1.7B views on YouTube https://open.spotify.com/track/1DIXPcTDzTj8ZMHt3PDt8p?si=vqpVXJX0QmidD6JoV12DvQ Gangnam Style - PSY. I’m sure everyone know this lol. 5.5B views on YouTube from this track alone. (Will update this list as I remember more people/songs. I’ve seen a lot of artists with this MO)

I kinda think this view is the YouTube/TikTok generation view. Whereas most 1-hit wonders were artists with dreams of success and might happily trade in some of the money off a one-hit wonder to have their whole body of work appreciated. Just a gut feeling

Fascinating point! It's like they caught lightning in a bottle. 'Macarena' by Los del Río is another perfect example. That song was a global phenomenon for a year and is still instantly recognizable.
