does anyone know why hub messages consistently spike around the 45th minute of every hour? about 1.5 megabytes of data.

What hub version are you on? Hubs perform background operations on a schedule for data consistency & network health

these are messages that make it to my backend. so not internal hub activity/Postgres

ah gotcha - there are some automated accounts that submit messages at regular intervals. That'd be my best guess for why you're seeing these spikes. We're observing them on our hubs as well but you're right it's not some internal hub activity in this case
