presumably not true forever startups gain a lot of leverage from non-dilutive funding (the less you need money, the more you ~get it) I think the best position a startup can be in is that break-even is achievable, but they've identified and built a situation where LTV>CAC and therefore it makes sense to grab a bucket of money and dump it into CAC related: https://paulgraham.com/aord.html https://paulgraham.com/ramenprofitable.html (haven't read these in awhile, maybe now's a good time to revisit)
