"There are no shortcuts" feels conflicting with "do things that don't scale". While I agree with both sentiments, how do you leverage these philosophies in making decisions?

Most people look for the “magic” / shortcut thing that makes growth easy when in reality the vast majority of successful startups went through a really manual slog for a long time.
