"Thinking decentralized" is a real skill. Economics is the first and so far only discipline that has mastered a narrow version of it. Computer science is starting to get close (both AI and non-AI versions). Neuroscience (rogue neuron theories) only started getting there very recently.

Distributed is a superset of decentralized along both feature vector and agency scales. Decentralized I think is a kind of degenerate lower-dimensional subspace of distributed design space.

Consider for a moment distributed computing, in the sense of distributed processing. There is still a leader or controller from which all workloads are submitted to the distributed system, the workloads just process automomously then return back. It’s not decentralised.
