yes I think your assessment is good, but I think having something as a signal of attention is basically having it as a marketing expense. 

and that is the crux, jacek has signalled in the months leading up to this set of decisions, the actual cost to acquire new Degens and it was astronomically high.

the north star for the protocol in the new app will likely be based on acquisition of ‘high-quality’ users, and somehow using the spend on $Degen to incentivize those users to create high-quality content, in whatever form that takes on the new app.

Degen tipping to me was always a signal of attention

for sure, but the issue has been if the Degen 'Treasury' is funding people to like other people's content (via Allowance), it creates an incentive to farm instead of actually reward good content.  

so this is where I think the opportunity is on the new app, to find a way to crack the code on this problem.  if people want to 'tip' with their own cash, like $noice, that is fine.  but if people want to essentially 'tip' with some kind of community or treasury funds, it needs to be aligned to tangible growth of the protocol/app.
