the gap between apple consumer UX and devEX is enormous. partially because their consumer experience is so good, but devEX is certainly below-average. goes to show just how much shit devs are willing to go through to gain access to the ecosystem.

this might explain why App Store apps can get away with crazy sub schemes and have fewer competition you either embrace apple fully (and get a moat) or you fade and go multi-platform (expo/webapp whatever)

my guess at the reasons: - "premium" audience that spends more on the hardware/accessories - every app update is manually reviewed with strict guidelines. it's a pretty high bar just to get on the app store in the first place - hence less competition.

yeah ngl,i've been vibe coding some swift apps for myself but the bar for -runs on my machine- vs it's signed and available in the App Store is a huge mentally one at least, like you have to plan around it to invest the time and probably have a good story to tell yourself about whats your ROI sad thing is it kills the free apps phenomenon a bit
