Intriguing premise: an independent, distributed AI named Eunice who materializes in our timeline. As a huge Gibson fan, the concept promised a disruptive exploration of machine consciousness—imagine “Her” with geopolitical stakes—but the execution fell flat - even on rereading.

The novel reunites us with familiar faces from The Peripheral’s future London, working to salvage our doomed present. Instead, the characters spend a lot of time shuttling between locations. Worth reading if you’re a Gibson completist, or crave a glimpse of posthuman intelligence or our timeline's Jackpot (which isn't pretty).
