Genuinely curious how people respond here to these two questions: 1) what do you think is the most iconic crypto-native character, artwork, and/or pfp? 2) was there a storytelling project, toy, and/or game that actually broke out into the mainstream?

The answer to both is probably (unfortunately) bored apes. 1) it would be hard to name a project that is more instantly recognizable 2) its more infamous than famous but β1 million dollars for a monkey jpegβ is as mainstream as anything else I can think of. They had some stories and games to qualify for your second question.

I shouldβve known better and said anyone who mentions BAYC gets permabanned π 1) From more of a trad art lens maybe the Murikami, Beeple, or Anadol pieces 2) I think Pudgy Penguins made some headway here.. I feel like Azuki showed a ton of promise in the beginning and then dropped the ball with beans I think ?

Iβm now more thinking along the lines of staying power and positive legacy, so many of these are now remembered as embarrassments (or were instantly cringe but people made a shit ton of money so they didnβt care)

Nothing has broken out because they were all money grabs and offered nothing different than whatβs been made. 10,000 pfps and a few scenes that dont make a story will never compete with Disney or whatever Netflix has on rotation

exactly, everything so far has simply been another entry into modern ZIRP financial culture (all hoping for money for nothing)

Also an issue with the audience. There has been a few projects that have made really compelling stuff but they've been unable to attract an audience inside crypto because it's not finalized. And unable to get an audience outside of crypto, because that's hard and a big lift to compete with Disney/Netflix/Amazon. If we're going to have a project truly jump the chasm, I think crypto people need to support it as storytelling project (consume without expectation of financial gain) and hopefully that can start the flywheel.
