every album is a no-skip album if you’re truly a music enthusiast/lover if you only listen to one or two songs on most albums you listen to, you’re no friend of mine

Vestiges of the CD era when you had to gamble pre-listen beyond the one or two you knew. With you generally, especially if the habit is just single sniping, but understandable that some albums have skips. Sometimes, you gotta listen front to back to find them, but that doesn't mean skips are inherently bad Album unrelated album.link/https://open.spotify.com/album/1Su7jQECJV3scrqYw55XvD

I just don’t skip But I also only try and listen to real artists that don’t disappoint, that always deliver Skipping is disrespectful to the artist, imo—if they’re truly an artist and they packaged the album in the way they intended for the material to be listened to

How do you define artistry in music? Songwriter-singers? Singer-songwriters? Singers? Instrumental? Digital - is that artistry? The bar is so low?

I’m kinda mostly aiming at the commercial/art divide that is invisible to most people and non-artists.. Taylor Swift = pure commercialism Marvel Movies = pure commercialism a group like TOPS = pure artistry Beach House = pure artistry The artists that aren’t trying to be billionaire commercial pop and appeal to everyone in the world: that type of artist is the only one that appeals to me in this case The artists that deliver on a vision, deliver their own unique worlds that don’t necessarily appeal to the everyman

You tell me if I’m wrong but I get the sense you don’t like women or girly things

lol, did you even look up TOPS or Beach House? Men I Trust? Like probably the majority of music that I can’t get enough of has women vocalists

I know beach house I’m not sure if I’m familiar with TOPS but I’ll give a listen I meant to bait with my comment bc I love to ask people what their opinion of Taylor swift is. To me it is a huge indicator of if I’m going to feel safe with someone or not. When I see you write that she is commercial and not an artist that shows to me a lot of hate for a woman who does her own thing and appeals to many women. I’m 32. I grew up listening to each album, although she did lose me for a few years when I was in college and it was lame to openly like her. Now it’s still lame but idgaf anymore. Plus her music now most definitely isn’t for 12 yr olds. And if that is what 12 year olds listen to I’ll take that everyday over redpill bs that makes women ashamed for their culture

Something that is basically corporation levels of management and corporation levels of success/proliferation, billionaire and all that, —you’re gonna have a hard time convincing me that it’s artistry I won’t even say the Marvel movies are artistry, and those are basically the Taylor Swift for the boys/men with the NPC-level of agency it takes to idolize and appreciate mindless corporate entertainment

🤝 The inequality of success in music is something we definitely can agree on. And in Ts defense (but I’m not trying to change your mind with this) I love that she went after scooter B for her music and is rereleasing it on her terms (and her fans are showing their support) AND how she counter-sued for $1 and won for sexual assault after a radio host groped her, got upset that she spoke the truth, tried to sue her for defamation and lost like a loser (ball don’t lie and BELIEVE WOMEN) I can see how her universe has exploded like marvel and I think she’d agree with you. Have you listened to her song, “Clara Bow”? Where I’m digging my heels in is with this: it’s horrific to say an individual woman whose success wouldn’t be questioned to the level it is if she were a man is the same as multiple FICTIONAL characters and fake universes

We just fundamentally disagree on what kinda ‘art’ we want to digest and support. I’ve always had an aversion to ‘mainstream pop’ and the commercialism of all of it. I don’t like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and all of those ‘icons’; no matter how much talent they may have: at the end of the day they’re talented people producing something hollow that isn’t even showcasing their talents or creatively breaking the norms/rules of anything. It’s like Christian Bale playing Batman: not his best acting, not even close, it’s just another hollow pop culture product I’d rather watch Bale in American Psycho or The Machinist, for a real envelope pushing display of his talents

FWIW you’re not alone with this. I have this same argument with my dad’s husband who also hates pop and what it stands for (but still works for the man??)
